The Artist needs permission…..
Permission: n.The action of officially allowing someone to do a particular thing; consent or authorization.
Origin: Late Middle English from Latin permissio(n-), from the verb permittere ‘allow’ (see permit). — — Oxford English Dictionary
When I am at the end of something, I have a very hard time deciding when it is truly complete. Who allows me to make my decision on this? What a responsibility it is, to choose, from start to finish… color, texture, even the act of making.
There are so many different responsibilities in my life. Art work, too, is a responsibility, when I have a piece I have promised to finish and deliver to a client. I have a responsibility to the work and to myself. At the same time, I love making my work so much that I often feel that I need to give myself permission to do it; that the more onerous tasks in my life must be done first, that because they are onerous, somehow I don’t need permission to spend time on them.
Why is this, I wonder. Creativity and the work we are meant to do from within our spirit is the most important work we can do. It is the expression of the gift within us.
If you are a creative, give yourself permission to do the work you love to do.
